The National Universities Commission (NUC) shall host the 2026 NUC Retreat with Vice-Chancellors of All Nigerian Universities from 13 to 14 October 2026 at the Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission, Abuja.

The Retreat shall bring together Vice-Chancellors of universities across Nigeria for strategic engagement on strengthening compliance with regulatory directives and advancing the overall development of the Nigerian University System (NUS).

Themed “Enhancing Regulatory Compliance, Partnership, Governance and Leadership in the Nigerian University System”, the Retreat seeks to: 

  • Maintain sustained partnership between the NUC and Vice-Chancellors of Federal, State and Private Universities on strategic national initiatives; 
  • Enhance understanding of current regulatory policies and compliance requirements; 
  • Review emerging challenges affecting all Nigerian Universities and identify practical policy responses; 
  • Promote effective governance, accountability, transparency and ethical leadership;
  • Develop a common roadmap for improving governance and service delivery within the NUS.

Participants shall include Vice-Chancellors of all Federal, State and Private Universities, strategic partner Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), resource persons, as well as selected staff of the NUC.

The Retreat shall feature paper presentations by resource persons and deliberations by participants. The expected outcomes shall include the adoption of a Communiqué outlining key resolutions and areas for collective action.

The engagement is expected to deepen partnership and foster a shared commitment among stakeholders towards strengthening governance, promoting regulatory compliance and enhancing the quality and effectiveness of university education in Nigeria.

The NUC looks forward to welcoming all participants to this important strategic engagement as stakeholders collectively explore pathways towards a stronger, more collaborative and effectively governed NUS.
