Late Maryam Sali
The Director, Accreditation, National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Mrs. Marylam Sali has passed on. She died in active service to the Commission on Saturday, 25th June, 2022, after a brief illness.
 
Until her death, she was the supervising Director of the Directorate of Accreditation, a position she assumed in August, 2019.  She has since been buried according to Islamic rites at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja.
 
The NUC community had since paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased Director.

At the family house, the Management team led by the Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed mni, MFR, FNAL, was on hand to commiserate with the Family of Alhaji Bello Sali and sympathise with him over the death of his wife. 
 
The Executive Secretary, who was represented by the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA), Mr. Sam Onazi said the delegation came on behalf of the Management and Staff of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and indeed the entire Nigerian University System (NUS), to extend a heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy with the entire family of Bello Sali over the death of Dr. Maryam, the Director of Accreditation.
He described her as an advocate of peace, lover of God and humanity whose wise counsel will be missed sorely and who served the Commission selflessly.
He encouraged the entire family to take solace in the enduring love and protection of Allah (SWT) and prayed the Almighty to grant her family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Responding, Alh. Bello Sali on behalf of the Family thanked and appreciated the Management for the Visit. He said he had spoken with the Executive Secretary over the phone who had promised to send the delegation. He described death as inevitable and ability to accept it as such was human.
He urged the team to extend appreciation to the Executive Secretary and her colleagues who had been supportive during their trying times.
Meanwhile other condolences had continued to pour in from all walks of life over her departure. Those who knew her closely had described her as an epitome of humility and kindness, an unassuming personality whose disposition to work and her colleagues were unparalleled. She would be sorely missed in the NUC family.       
The late Dr. Maryam Sali, FNLA, served at a time as the Director, Student Support Services of the National Universities Commission (NUC). She holds a Diploma in Library Science (DLS) and Bachelor of Library Science (B.LS) Second Class Upper from the University of Maiduguri. In addition, she has a Master’s degree and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) both in Library and Information Science from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
 
Dr. Sali attended various local and international short term training courses in Monitoring and Evaluation, Library and Information Services as well as Entrepreneurship Education.
She joined the services of the NUC in October, 1993 as a librarian II officer and rose through the ranks.
 
Along the line, she served the Commission in various capacities and Directorates. She served as a librarian in the Library Services Division of the then Department of Academic planning and also as a Principal and an Assistant Chief Quality Assurance officer in the Department of Quality Assurance now known as the Directorate of Quality Assurance.
 
She further served as a chief and Deputy Director, Inspection and Monitoring until July, 2017 when she was redeployed to the Directorate of Student Support Services as Deputy Director, Careers Services.
 
Dr. Sali was appointed Director, Student Support Services with effect from 1st January, 2019, a position she held until her appointment as the Director Accreditation in August 2019 before her demise.
 
The National Universities Commission and indeed the entire Nigerian University System (NUS) mourn the unfortunate death of the Director. We pray that the Almighty God forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannatul Firdaus.
