
On May 22, 2025, the University of the West of England in Bristol hosted the highly anticipated launch of the Centre for African Social and Economic Transformation (CASET), attended by numerous prominent dignitaries.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor,President, Chief Executive Officer of University of the West of England, Sir Steve West CDE,DL at the Bristol Campus of the University.
A key highlight of the event was the compelling address delivered by Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu FCVSN, Executive Secretary of the NUC.
In his speech, Prof. Ribadu focused on the immense potential of Transnational Education (TNE) and the importance of educational partnerships across borders.
He articulated how such collaborations, particularly between African institutions and their international counterparts, could significantly enhance both the quality and accessibility of learning in Nigeria.
He noted that these partnerships could lead to crucial improvements in academic curricula, provide expanded research opportunities, and enrich the broader educational landscape.
He added that suchly partnerships would allow students to gain essential exposure to international academic standards, that would enhance their employability through access to globally recognised qualifications.
Prof. Ribadu also addressed several challenges that persist in implementing TNE. He pointed out issues such as discrepancies in accreditation standards, funding limitations, and cultural differences, which may impede effective collaborations.
He urged stakeholders to work together to address these challenges, calling for concerted efforts to create a more conducive environment for TNE.
