In a related development, in order to ensure the successful hosting of the 3-Day Roundtable of NUC and Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities on the African Standards Guidelines on Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ASG-QA), the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, FCSVN, recently inaugurated a 17-man Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
The inauguration ceremony which took place at the Executive Secretary’s Office, was in furtherance of the sustained commitment of the National Universities Commission to the HAQAA3 Dissemination Project funded by DAAD/EU.
The Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Committee are to:
- Organize a successful 3-Day Roundtable of NUC and Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities on the ASG-QA; and
- Undertake any other activity or activities relevant to the successful hosting of the Roundtable, in line with the Project Development Objectives (PDOs).
After the inauguration, the NUC Deputy Director (Academic Planning) and Head, Resource and Strategic Planning Division and Project Coordinator of HAQAA3- DAAD Funded Dissemination Project in Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Nte Bisong, thanked the Executive Secretary and his Management Team for their invaluable support to the project.
He informed the Executive Secretary that 70 percent of the grant has been released to the project by the funding agency as earlier agreed and rolled out the timelines for the 6-months duration project which spans across October, 2025 to March, 2026.
Dr. Bisong revealed that the proposed Roundtable is aimed at rapidly increasing the popularity of ASG-QA in the Nigerian University System (NUS) by advocating the possible domestication of vital and compatible components of the continental quality assurance and accreditation framework in the system.
He also underscored the imperative of the ASG-QA in Africa’s higher education vis-à-vis the Nigerian Universities, in terms of academic credit transfer, faculty mobility, staff and student exchange and compatible qualification framework harmony.
Professor Ribadu thanked Dr. Nte Bisong for attracting the DAAD grant and expressed confidence in the capacity of the LOC to deliver on its mandate while reassuring the Project Coordinator and indeed the entire LOC of Management’s disposition to providing an enabling environment for the successful hosting of the 3-Day Roundtable.
In a vote of thanks, the Chief Academic Planning Officer at the Directorate of Academic Planning, NUC, Mrs. Sa’adiya Sambo expressed appreciation to the NUC Management for the LOC’s inauguration and confidence reposed on the membership.
