The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu (FCVSN), on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, received in audience, a three-man delegation from the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), led by the Registrar, Dr. Oladotun E. Fadipe.

It would be recalled that the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) is a regulatory body charged with the responsibility of coordinating and overseeing the practice of veterinary profession in Nigeria.

In his speech, the VCN Registrar, Dr. Oladotun thanked the Executive Secretary for the warm reception accorded them, disclosing that the purpose of the visit was first to appreciate the Commission over the roundtable meeting of 11th September involving his organisation and other relevant stakeholders where the Veterinary Council of Nigeria was singled, among seven other professional bodies, with waivers to continue their regulatory activities, though with a proviso that it should be in collaboration with the National Universities Commission.

He described the decision as a landmark, which according to him, is a welcome development for all the professional bodies involved.

He used the forum to state the need for other collaborations with the NUC in the areas of accreditation, Curriculum Review and Streamlining of programme, noting that it is a way forward.

Responding, the Executive Secretary, Professor Ribadu advised them to write to NUC whenever they are ready to embark on any professional accreditation.

On curriculum review, the Executive Secretary reminded them that it has always being a continuous process and that they will be duly informed whenever the exercise will be conducted.  

He also pointed out that for the professional accreditation exercise that would conducted jointly, the cost of collaborating with NUC will be at no cost to the organisation as NUC will bear the cost of its staff nominated to join them in the exercise.

He promised to inform the Universities through appropriate communication channels to in order to intimate them on the recent policy, especially with update on the decision of a waiver granted to the seven professional bodies.

At the end, the Executive Secretary, NUC, Professor Ribadu pledged the support of the Commission to the Veterinary Council of Nigeria to ensure that quality is maintained in the educational system.

In the Veterinary Council of Nigeria delegation were two Principal Assistant Registrars, Dr.  Gloyi A. Yakubu and Dr.  John Garba.

At the meeting were NUC Ag. Director of:  the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Information Technology (DRIIT), Mr Mohammed Lawal. Farouk; Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP), Mr. Abubakar Mohammed Girei, Directorate of Public Affairs (DPA), Mrs. Franca Chukwuonwo; as well as the Deputy Director, Service Compact with Nigerians (SERVICOM) & Anti-Corruption, in the Directorate of Executive Secretary’s Office (DESO), Mr. Iliyasu Musa.

Others were the Head, Special Duties in the Office of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Tanko; the Technical Assistant to the ES, Mr. Anas Shetima as well as Secretariat Staff including, Mrs Onwusiri Oluchi,  Gabriel Ogba,  Mrs. Obiajuru Adaku, Camera man, Mr Abubakar Sadiq and Mr. Emenem Chinweokwu.
