REMEDIES

1. NSC 312, 413 and 208 are treated as localized courses instead of Core/Compulsory courses.

2. Some local contents are not clearly structured. In addition, 400 and 500 level second semester courses are deficient in terms of total unit.

3. Some marking scheme were not properly graded.

4. The ratio/proportion of teaching staff core to the programme provides for 65% of the teaching staff need.

5. 54.5% of the Academic staff have not benefitted from Staff Development Progrramme.

6. The following equipment in the Med-Surge, Mental health, Public health and Nursing Research laboratories are not adequate: Torso, Medication and bed bathing trolleys, Simulators charts, Drums Manikins, Forceps, Mothercraft tools and Automated birthing manikin. In addition, the laboratory space is inadequate for the programme.

7. Furniture in the classrooms are made of metals

8. Academic Staff offices are inadequate in space and lacks book shelves and filing cabinets.

9. Physical Library books and Journals are inadequate in number and coverage.

10. Funding for the programme is inadequate

 

1. The University should review the curriculum in line with CCMAS for the programme.

2. The University should ensure that the credit load across all levels of study is in line with the NUC CCMAS.

3. The University should ensure that marks allocated is inconsistent with the marking scheme.
4. The University should ensure that ratio/proportion of teaching staff core to the subject area provides for 75% or more of the teaching staff need.

5. The University should ensure that all Academic and Non-teaching staff benefit from Staff Development programme.

6. The University should ensure that all essential laboratory equipment should be provided for the programme.

7. Furniture in the classrooms should be changed to a more modern chairs and desks.

8. Adequate number of well-furnished offices should be provided for the academic staff of the programme.

9. More current books and journals should be procured for the programme.

10. The programme should be well funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 71.25%. It scored 25 (75.7%)  in Academic Matters, 28 (80.00%) in Staffing, 15 (55.56%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
