DEFICIENCIES

REMEDIES

1. The examination questions did not substantially cover the curriculum.
2. Sampled projects showed evidence of outdated references.
3. Students demonstrated good level of hard skills but average level of soft skills.
4. There is no evidence of minutes of meetings of the Quality Assurance committee.
5. Only 60% of the teaching staff are core to the subject area.
6. 50% of non teaching have not benefited from staff development scheme.
7. The Accounting laboratory is inadequate in space and equipment.
8. Recommended texts in the physical library are not current, especially, for Management Accounting and Taxation.
9. The is no evidence of staff and students research collaboration activities both locally and internationally.

 

1. The university should ensure that examination questions cover the curriculum.
2. Supervisor should ensure that student employ current materials for their project work.
3. The university should put in place a system to improve the soft skills of students in the programme.
4. The University should ensure that Quality Assurance Committee meet regularly and minutes of meetings are well documented.
5. The University should ensure that the standard recommended by the NUC BMAS/CCMAS in the area of staff core to the subject area of the programme are met.
6. The university should create staff development scheme for non teaching of the programme.
7. The university should provide an alternative structure for the accounting laboratory.
8. The university should procure current recommended texts in the physical library for the programme.
9. The university should provide incentives for teaching staff and students of the programme to engage in research and collaboration locally and internationally.

 

The total score for the programme is 82.5%. It scored 32 (83%)  in Academic Matters, 35 (88%) in Staffing, 27 (83.3%) in Physical Facilities, 18 (83.3%) in Library. The programme scored 3 (66.7%) in Funding, 3 (33.3%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (50%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
