REMEDIES

1. The curriculum is not fully adequate as the following courses were omitted:
i. MLS 307 Practical exercise I
ii. MLS 501 General Laboratory practice
iii. MLS 503 Practical exercise II
iv. MLS 406 Research method should be taught in 400 level not 500 level
2. Marking schemes exist but not well developed.
3. Internal quality assurance system does not exist.
4. The proportion of staff core to the subject area is Less than 75%
5. Less than 70% of academic staff have benefited from staff development program.
6. Less than 50% of non-academic staff have benefited from staff development program.
7. The quantity of the following equipment is not adequate: Hematocrit centrifuge, hot air oven, microtome, wash-up room.
8. Poor funding.

 

1. The curriculum must include the following courses.
2. The marking schemes should be well developed
3. More staff core to the subject area should be employed
4. Internal quality assurance should be put in place.
5. Academic staff development should be improved
6. Non Academic staff development should be improved
7. The quantity of the following equipment should be improved: Hematocrit centrifuge, hot air oven, microtome, wash-up room.
8. The funding should be improved.

 

The total score for the programme is 77.31%. It scored 24 (72.73%)  in Academic Matters, 26 (74.29%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 18 (100.00%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
