1. The following core courses are omitted from the curriculum:
i) Hausa Traditional Occupations
ii) Hausa Economic System
iii) Hausa Medicine
2. The curriculum contains only one innovative course.
3. Question papers do not carry the University logo and instructions are not written in the Hausa language.
4. Marking schemes are not well developed.
5. 56% of the academic staff do not have PhD.
6. Non-teaching staff is inadequate in number.
7. Non of the academic staff have benefitted from Staff Development Programme.
8. Artefacts such as drums, cooking utensils and clothing are inadequate in the laboratory.
9. Journals are inadequate in number.
10. There is no multidisciplinary approach to research and collaborations.

 

1. The University should ensure that all omitted core courses are included in the curriculum of the programme.

2. The University should ensure the inclusion of four or more additional/innovative courses in the curriculum.
3. The University should ensure that all question papers carry the University logo and instructions must be written in the Hausa language.
4. The University should ensure that marks are allocated on question papers.
5. The University should ensure that all academic staff have PhD.
6. The University should employ more non-teaching staff for the programme.
7. The University should ensure that all academic staff benefit from Staff Development Programme.
8. The University should provide a bigger archive (material culture gallery) for the programme.
9. The University should procure more journals in the library,
10. The University should ensure that there is multidisciplinary approach to research and collaborations.

 

The total score for the programme is 65.55%. It scored 20 (60.61%)  in Academic Matters, 20 (57.14%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
