REMEDIES

1. A course taught at 400 level supposed to be a 500 level course while another taught in 500 level supposed to be taken at 400 level.
2. Only two innovative courses were introduced into the curriculum of the programme.
3. The practical being carried out are not adequate to cover the curriculum.
4. The proportion of the teaching Staff core to the subject area is low (35%).
5. The number of technical staff for the programme is not adequate (4).
6. The academic and non academic staff development is below 70% (68% and 67% respectively).
7. Only one laboratory is available for the programme and it is deficient in equipment core to the programme.
8. The staff office accommodation is inadequate in space and furnishing.

 

1. The students should be taught PGE 512 (Petroleum and Gas Production Engineering); a 500 level first semester course before exposing them to PGE 417 (Petroleum Engineering Laboratory III); a 400 level first semester course.
2. More innovative courses, above that recommended in the BMAS should be introduced. Presently, only two innovative courses exist at 400 level first semester; FUTM – PGE 415 (Natural Gas Process Plant Design) and PGE 418 (Introduction to Corrosion of Materials).
3. More practical work should be included into the course so as to cover the curriculum. Practical such as porosity measurement, surface tension determination, flash point determination etc.
4. The number of teaching staff core to the subject area should be reviewed to meet NUC guidelines.
5. The University should employ more technical staff for the programme.
6. The University should encourage more academic and non-academic staff development.
7. The University should provide more laboratories and equipment core to the programme; equipment such as porosimeter, core flooding equipment, tensiometer, liquid and gas permeability machine etc.
A minimum of three laboratories is required for Petroleum and Gas Engineering (Drilling lab, Production lab, Reservoir and Simulation lab).
8. The University should provide as well as furnish more office accommodation for staff.

 

The total score for the programme is 77.31%. It scored 28 (84.85%)  in Academic Matters, 25 (71.43%) in Staffing, 18 (66.67%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
