REMEDIES

1.The workload for 100 level is high.
2. Only three innovative courses were added to the course structure.
3. Marking scheme showed bulk scoring.
4. The project reports were not properly documented.
5. The number of practical work was low.
6. Staff mix by rank did not meet NUC guideline in any category (15:31:54)
7. Less than 70% of the academic staff (67%) have Ph.D and only 33% of the non teaching staff have benefited from staff development.
8. A dedicated simulation lab and more lab equipment are needed for the programme (Core flooding apparatus and porosimeter).
9. Office accommodation for academic staff are inadequate in space.
10. The number of textbooks and journals are few and not current as well.

 

1.The workload for 100 level should be reduced. GEN 104 (Use of English) and GEN 112 (Use of library) courses should be reduced to 2 credit unit and 1 credit unit respectively. Also, the course codes should be harmonized to clearly indicate the semesters.
2. More innovative course should be introduced into the course structure, over and above the compulsory courses. Presently there are 3 innovative courses BAZ – PGE 503 (Digital and smart Oil and Gas field), BAZ – PGE 509 (Plant Design) and BAZ – PGE 417 (Reservoir Petroleum Data Management).
3. Marking distribution should be ensured and clearly seen for every test or exam script marked.
4. Project reports of students of the Department should follow the required format for technical report writing.
5. More practical work should be employed especially in the area of porosity determination of rock formation.
6. The University should employ more hands to augment the existing academic staff to meet the NUC guidelines in all the categories of staff mix by rank.
7. The University should support their academic staff to go for their Ph.D and the non-teaching to benefit from staff development.
8. The University should give optimum importance to the procurement of more laboratory equipment such as core flooding apparatus and porosimeter while ensuring a dedicated simulation laboratory.
9. The University should increase the staff office accommodation.
10. The University should procure more current books and journals.

 

The total score for the programme is 80.00%. It scored 31 (83.78%)  in Academic Matters, 26 (74.29%) in Staffing, 23 (85.19%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
