1. The curriculum is not fully adequate as few compulsory courses were omitted. E.g a. Spatial organization of society (100level) b. Introduction to Geomorphology and soil (200level)
C. Biogeography (300level)
d. Contemporary philosophy and methodology (400level)
2. Internal quality assurance system at the departmental level is not effective
3. Staff mix by rank is top heavy with more professional cadre.
4. Non teaching staff are inadequate especially technologist.
5. Staff development for non academic staff is nearly non existence.
6. Cartography laboratory exist but no modern facilities like lighting tables and GIS laboratory is shared with other departments.
7. Very few sand buckets were seen

 

1. The department should ensure that all the courses recommended by BMAS/CCMAS are captured at all levels of the programme.
2. Department should improve on the internal quality assurance system. Regular meetings should be held at the departmental level.
3. There’s need for the University to employ lower level staff, senior lecturers and lecturer I to ensure sustainability of the programme.
4.University should employ more technologist for the programme.
5. Department should ensure that non teaching staff are involved in the staff development programme.
6. University should provide a dedicated GIS laboratory forbthe department and cartography laboratory should be upgraded with modern facilities.
7. More sand buckets needed to ensure safety of lecturers and students

 

The total score for the programme is 83.60%. It scored 32.5 (87.84%)  in Academic Matters, 28 (80.00%) in Staffing, 21 (77.78%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
