1. There are only two innovative courses offered in the Literature in English programme against the minimum of four recommended in the BMAS.

2. The marking schemes are not well developed.

3. There is no proper supervision of degree projects and also the projects lack uniformity in the format.

4. There is no existence of External examiner for Literature in English programme. No appointment letter sighted.

5. There is no evidence of an existing quality assurance committee in place in the Department.

6. Only 62% of the teaching staff have Ph.D degree.

7. Only 32% of the teaching staff have benefitted from the staff development programme in the last 3 years.

8. None of the non-teaching staff have benefitted from staff development programme in the Department.

9. The Library holds an inadequate number of books and lacks currency.

 

1. The University should ensure that a minimum of four innovative courses are offered as recommended by BMAS.

2. There should be a well-developed marking schemes for the Literature in English programme.

3. The University should ensure proper supervision of degree projects and a uniform format adopted for the programme.

4. The University should appoints an External Examiner for Literature in English programme.

5. The University should ensure a well organised quality assurance committee in the programme.

6. The University should ensure that more teaching staff are employed for the programme.

7. The University should encourage all teaching staff to have Ph.D degree,

8. The University should ensure that non-teaching staff benefits from staff development programme.

9. The University should provide the Library with adequate books and journals.

 

The total score for the programme is 72.80%. It scored 27 (72.97%)  in Academic Matters, 26 (74%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
