1. There are only two innovative courses offered in the English Language programme against the minimum of four recommended in the BMAS.

2. The marking schemes are not well developed.

3. There is no proper supervision of degree projects and also the projects lack uniformity in the format.

4. There is no existence of External examiner for the English Language programme. No appointment letter sighted.

5. There is no evidence of an existing quality assurance committee in place in the Department.

6. The staff/student ratio is 1:37. This does not meet the provision of BMAS for the programme.

7. Only 66.6% of the teaching staff have Ph.D degree. There is still need for improvement.

8. Only 33% of the teaching staff have benefitted from staff development in the last 3 years.

9. None of the non-teaching staff have benefitted from staff development in the department.

10. Most of the computers in the Language Laboratory are not functional.

11. Classrooms and theatres for the programme are shared among the Faculty.

12. The Library holds an inadequate number of books and lacks currency.

 

1. The University should ensure that a minimum of four innovative courses are offered as recommended by BMAS.

2. There should be a well-developed marking schemes for the English Language programme.

3. The University should ensure proper supervision of degree projects and a uniform format adopted for the programme.

4. The University should appoints an External Examiner for English Language programme.

5. The University should a ensure a well organised quality assurance committee in the Department.

6. The University should ensure that more teaching staff are employed for the programme.

7. The University should encourage all teaching staff to obtain Ph.D degree.

8. The University should ensure that all teaching staff benefits from staff development in the University.

9. The University should ensure that non-teaching staff benefits from staff development programme.

10. The University should make sure the Language Laboratory computers are in order.

11. The University should ensure dedicated classrooms for the programme.

12. The University should provide the Library with adequate books and journals.

 

The total score for the programme is 72.00%. It scored 27 (72.97%)  in Academic Matters, 25 (71%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
