REMEDIES

1. Penalties for examination malpractices, dress code and
requirements for graduation are not stipulated in the
students’ handbook.

2. Core academic staff for Clinical Dentistry are inadequate.

3. Staff mix by rank of 18.9:32.4:48.6 meets BMAS guideline in only one
category.

4. 32.4% of the academic staff do not possess a Ph.D. nor fellowship.

5. 78.4% and 28% of the academic and non-teaching staff respectively
have not benefited from the staff development programme.

6. Academic staff offices are not well furnished.

7. The Phantom Head Laboratory does not have operators’ stools,
compressors for the available phantom heads and Demonstrators
station (its own Phantom head, projector and screen).

8. The Dental Prosthetic Technique Laboratory lack face- bows and
adequate articulators for students.

9. There was no Oral Biology Laboratory (Oral Pathology
Laboratory/Studio), as such lacks different kinds of sample teeth for
teaching dentistry students.

10. The fire extinguisher had expired and the buckets of sand were
inadequate.

11. Physical library journals are inadequate in number and currency.

12. The slow internet connectivity impedes access to e-books and e-
journals.

 

1. The University should ensure that the rules and regulations governing
penalties for examination malpractices, dress code and requirements
for graduation are included in the students’ handbook for the
programme.

2. The University should ensure that adequate core Clinical Dental
Academic Staff are available for the programme.

3. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank of 20:35:45 in line
with NUC approved guidelines.

4. The University should ensure that all academic staff possess a Ph.D.
or fellowship for the programme.

5. The University should ensure that all academic and non-teaching
staff benefit from the staff development programme.

6. All academic staff offices should be well furnished for the
programme.

7. The University should ensure that the Phantom Head Laboratory is
well equipped for the programme.

8. The University should ensure that the Dental Prosthetic Technique
Laboratory is well equipped for the programme.

9. Standard Oral Biology Laboratory should be provided for the
programme.

10. Adequate safety measures should be put in place for the
programme.

11. More current journals should be procured for the programme.

12. The University should ensure that stable and steady internet
connectivity is available for the programme.

 

The total score for the programme is 71.90%. It scored 29 (82.86%)  in Academic Matters, 23 (65.71%) in Staffing, 21 (77.78%) in Physical Facilities, 10 (55.56%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
