1. Organic Chemistry (CHM 201) and Introduction to Computer Science (CSC 101) are omitted from the curriculum.
2. Some equipment for practical work such as quadrants, soil augers and soil testing kits were not available for the programme.
3. Staff mix by rank of 21.7:30.4:47.8 does not meet the NUC requirements.
4. Only 65.21% of the academic staff have a PhD
5. Only 18.18% of the non-teaching staff have benefitted from staff development programmes.
6. Some essential laboratory equipment such as Nikon phase contrast, slide projector, overhead projector, and herbarium boxes are not available for the programme.
7. Internet connectivity in the e-library and on the campus was not very strong.
8. Funding for the programme is inadequate.
9. There is no evidence of a tracer system.

 

1. The University should ensure that all core courses for the programme are included in the curriculum and are taught.
2. Requisite equipment or practical work should be provided for the programme.
3. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank of 20:35:40.
4. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain PhD.
5. The University should ensure that all non-teaching staff benefit from staff development programmes.
6. The university should endeavour to provide a Nikon phase contrast, slide projector, overhead projector, and herbarium boxes for the programme.
7. The University should provide strong internet connectivity within the e-library and on the campus.
8. The programme should be adequately funded.
9. The University should put in place a robust tracer system.

 

The total score for the programme is 76.00%. It scored 30.5 (82.43%)  in Academic Matters, 27.5 (78.57%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
