REMEDIES

1. The following courses in the BMAS were omitted:
i. MLS 308 Fundamental of BGS (ii). MLS 410 Clinical Chemistry
(iii). MLS 411 Blood Group Serology BGS. (iv). MLS 412 Immunology and Immunochemistry. (v) MLS 501 General Lab Practice.
2. The following courses were wrongly placed at the level of study: (i) MLS 406 Research method, (ii). MLS 309 Basic medical parasitology (iii) MLS 407 Medical entomology.
3. No internal quality assurance exists.
4. The proportion of staff core to the subject area is less than 50%
5. inadequate number of non-teaching staff.
6.Less than 50% of Teaching staff benefitted from staff development program.
7. Less than 50% of non-Teaching staff benefitted from staff development program.
8. The laboratory equipment inspected does not meet the BMAS specifications
9. The equipment and furniture are adequate and not well maintained
10. The library holdings are inadequate in number and coverage.
11. The program funding is inadequate.

2. MLS 406 Research method should be placed at 400 level not 500
level, MLS 406 Research method should be placed at 400 Level not 500level, MLS 309 Basic medical parasitology should be placed in 300level not 500level, MLS 407 Medical entomology should be placed in 400level.
3. The management should constitute internal quality assurance for the program.
4. The school management should employ staff in the area of Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Medical Microbiology, parasitology, Histopathology and immunology.
5. The management should employ more non-teaching staff for the program.
6. More teaching staff should engage in staff development program.
7. More non-teaching staff should engage in staff development program.
8. More laboratory equipment should be procured e.g Binocular microscope, Microtone, electrophoretic tank.
9. The equipment and furniture should be well maintained.
10. More library holdings should be procured.
11. More funds should be allocated for the program.

 

The total score for the programme is 60.50%. It scored 21 (63.64%)  in Academic Matters, 22 (62.86%) in Staffing, 16 (59.26%) in Physical Facilities, 10 (55.56%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
