REMEDIES

1. Practicals conducted are of good quality, but did not cover the curriculum.
2. The staff mix by rank was consistent in only one category.
3. 50% of the academic staff have Ph.D.
4. There are 2 technical staff and 3 admin staff who are qualified by inadequate to cover the requirement of the department, particularly the junior staff cadre.
5. only 20% of the non-academic staff have benefited from staff development in the past 3 years.
6. The laboratory space is inadequate which meets 50% but less than 60% of the NUC space standards.
7. The department has 2 shared laboratories and no dedicated labs.
8. The laboratories are ill-equipped with very few laboratory equipment installed.
9. The classrooms need improved lighting, fans, and white boards need to be replaced.
10. Some senior staff offices do not have inbuilt toilet facilities, filing cabinets and bookshelves.
11. Fire extinguishers are not enough and are expired; sand buckets also are not enough.
12. Funding is inadequate

 

1. Practicals conducted should cover the curriculum.
2. The staff mix by rank should be consistent in all 3 categories or by virtue of high proportion (over 25%) of professors in the programme.
3. All academic staff should be Ph.D holders.
4. More technical and administrative staff should be recruited to the programme.
5. All non-academic staff should benefit from staff development.
6. The laboratory space should be adequate to meet the provisions of the BMAS by 70% or more.
7. The dept should have the required 5 dedicated labs for the programme.
8. All dedicated labs should be fully equipped with equipment installed.
9. Lighting, fans, should be installed in classrooms and white boards installed.
10. All senior staff offices should have inbuilt toilet facilities, filing cabinets and bookshelves.
11. There should be enough fire extinguishers and sand buckets in the department and expired ones replaced.
12. Funding should be adequate.

 

The total score for the programme is 73.55%. It scored 28 (84.85%)  in Academic Matters, 26 (74%) in Staffing, 16 (59.26%) in Physical Facilities, 13 (72.22%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
