1. The staff mix by rank 23.5:41.1:35.3 does not meet the NUC approved guidelines in any category.

2. 1 student admitted into the programme did not meet the admission requirements (No credit in Literature).

3. No external examiner system system exists.

4. Furniture in classrooms and lecture theatres are dilapidated, there are no white boards and projectors.

5. The language lab is not soundproof and lacks essential teaching aids such as Linguistic charts.

6. 44.4% of the academic staff have not benefitted from staff development programme.

7. There is block allocation of marks to questions in marking schemes for most courses.

8. Funding is inadequate for the programme.

 

1. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank of 20:35:45 in line with the approved NUC guidelines.

2. The University should ensure that all admitted students meet all admission requirements.

3. The University should ensure that qualified academics not below senior lecturer are engaged as external examiners for the programme.

4. Furniture in classrooms and lecture theatres should be well maintained. In addition functional whiteboards and projectors should be installed.

5. All essential lab equipment should be provided for the programme in line with the BMAS.

6. The University should ensure that all academic staff benefit from staff development programme.

7. Block allocation of marks to examination questions should be discouraged.

8. The University should ensure that the programme is adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 71.90%. It scored 24.5 (70.00%)  in Academic Matters, 24 (69%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 16.5 (91.67%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
