1. CMS 301: Foundation of Broadcasting, CMS 303: Introduction to Radio
Production, MAC 305: Introduction to Print and Photojournalism are
foundation courses but taught in 300 level.

2. CMS 10I: Introduction to Human and Communication and Indigenous
Africa Co is been taught as one course

3. 60% of the academic staff for the programme are core to the subject
area

4. 20% of the academic staff for the programme do not have PhD
degree

5. 40% of the academic staff have not benefitted from the Staff
Development Programme.

6. Media studios are not adequate in space and not provided with
essential equipment.

7. Journals in the Library are inadequate in number and currency

8. Funding is inadequate for the programme

 

1. CMS 301: Foundation of Broadcasting, CMS 303: Introduction to Radio
Production, MAC 305: Introduction to Print and Photojournalism
should be moved from 300 Level to 100 Level.

2. CMS101: Introduction to Human Communication and Indigenous
African Communication should be separated into two distinct
courses

3. The University should ensure that the proportion of teaching staff
core to subject area should provide for 75% or more of the teaching
staff need.

4. All academic staff should be encouraged to have PhD degree

5. The University should ensure that all academic benefitted from the
Staff Development Programme.

6. Standard, spacious and well equipped studios should be provided in line with NUC regulations.

7. More current Journals should be procured for the programme.

8. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 85.7%. It scored 33 (93.9%)  in Academic Matters, 35 (83%) in Staffing, 27 (77.8%) in Physical Facilities, 18 (88.9%) in Library. The programme scored 3 (66.7%) in Funding, 3 (100%) in Research and Collaborations and (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
