REMEDIES |
i)The marking scheme was not strictly adhered to, as block marking was observed in the examination scripts for PHE 312 (Curriculum Studies) during the 2022/2023 session. ii) The department had only two (2) administrative staff members available. iii) Only one out of the eight(8) non-academic staff benefited from the staff development programme. iv) The floor of the indoor hall/gymnasium is rough, and some of the markings and colour codes designated for individual sport are nearly unrecognisable. Additionally, equipment such as pommel horse, wall bars, and parallel bars are outdated, while the gym mats are completely unavailable. v) The office accommodation is inadequate in both space space and furnishing. The chairs and tables are outdated, with some in a state of disrepair. For example, the Head of Department’s office is small and furnished with an old table whose plywood surface is peeling. Offices for other staff members are no larger than 7×7 square meters, limiting their functionality, as they cannot comfortably accommodate more than four students for consultations. These spaces are partitioned with old plywood and secured with padlocks instead of proper locks. While professors’ offices are sufficient in size, some of their furniture has been procured through personal efforts. vi)The only dedicated classroom is poorly lit with broken windows and seats. vii) Funding is fairly adequate.

i) The marking scheme should be strictly adhered to so as not to encourage block marking. ii) Additional administrative staff should be employed in the department. iii) The university should ensure that all staff members have access to and benefit from the staff development programme. iv) The indoor hall/gymnasium should be renovated and the outdated equipment replaced, while the unavailable ones should be provided. v) Befitting office accommodation in terms of space and furnishing should be provided for staff. vi) A new dedicated classroom with sufficient space and seating should be provided for the programme. vii) The university should ensure that the programme is adequately funded taking into account the current economic realities.
