1.The space in the clinic is inadequate and the partitioning with curtains are not ideal. The number of dental chairs for the prosthetic and conservative clinics are inadequate

2. Books and journals for the programme are old and inadequate in number and coverage

3. Access to available e-books and e-journals is inadequate

4.Special posting like Anaesthetics, Radiology and Psychiatry are unnecessary

5. 57.1 percent of the academic staff did not benefit from staff development programme in the past 3 years

5. 0% of the non-academic benefited from staff development programme in the past 3 years.

6. There were no inclusion of additional/innovative courses in the curriculum

7.The quality and level of the practical work was not adequate

8.Funding of the programme is inadequate

 

The university should provide adequate space in the pedodontics and orthodontic clinics and the partitions should be made up of concrete materials. The university should procure more dental chairs for the prosthetic and conservative clinics.

2. The university should procure books in prosthodontics, paediatrics dentistry and Operative Dentistry eg. Apata, Pathways of the Pulp. The university should procure current journals e.g Nigerian Journal of Dental Research, Nigerian Society for restorative Dentistry, Nigerian Dental Journal.

4.The university should concentrate on dental courses like Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Periodontology

5.The university should ensure that all academic staff of the university benefit from the staff development programme of the university.

5.The university should ensure that non-academic staff benefit from staff development programme of the university

6. The university should ensure the inclusion of 4 or more additional/innovative courses in the curriculum over and above the minimum core/compulsory courses stipulated in the BMAS without exceeding the maximum credit load across all the levels of study.

7. The university should ensure that the students are exposed to composite resin cavity preparation and restoration.

8.The University should provide adequate funds for the programme

 

The total score for the programme is 76.75%. It scored 27 (77.14%)  in Academic Matters, 29 (83%) in Staffing, 25.4 (94.07%) in Physical Facilities, 11 (61.11%) in Library. The programme scored 0 (0.00%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
