1. 6 out of 35 students were admitted into the programme did not meet the admission requirement:

2. Academic regulations exist in students’ handbook but not well publicized.

3. The standard of tests and examinations is good, Tests and examinations do not cover the curriculum.

4. Some sampled practical work conducted did not cover the curriculum.

5. 31% of non-teaching staff have not benefited from Staff Development Programme.

6. The equipment in the department for the programme are inadequate in number, e.g Petrological, Mineralogical, Geological hammer, Magnifying glasses and Lens sterile plates, AAS, Cutting and polishing machines.

7. The classrooms and lecture theatres are inadequate in space.

8. Academic staff offices are inadequate in space.

9. Physical library books and journals are inadequate in currency.

10. Funding is inadequate for the Programme.

 

1. The University should ensure that all admitted students meet all admission requirements.

2. The University should ensure that Academic regulations are well publicized.

3. The University should ensure that standard of tests and examinations is improved, and that texts and examinations cover the curriculum.

4. The University should ensure that all practical works covers the curriculum.

5. The University should ensure that all non-teaching Staff benefit from Staff Development Programme.

6. The University should ensure that all equipment needed in the department for the programme are provided.

7. Standard classrooms and lecture theatres should be provided for the programme.

8. Standard (spacious) offices should be provided for the programme.

9. The University should provide more current books and journals for the programme.

10. The Programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 69.60%. It scored 23 (62.16%)  in Academic Matters, 31 (89%) in Staffing, 17 (62.96%) in Physical Facilities, 15 (83.33%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 0 (0.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
