1. There are a few marking schemes found in the examination scripts.
2. The practical work did not cover the curriculum
3. The proportion of teaching staff core to the programme provides for only 72% of the teaching staff needs.
4. 50% of the teaching staff have not benefitted from a staff development programme in the past three years
5. All non-teaching staff have not benefitted from the staff development programme in the past three years
6. Office accommodation lacks toilet facilities
7. Some of the laboratory equipments are not available

 

1. The University should ensure the marking scheme is well-developed and consistent
2. The university should ensure that practical work covers the curriculum
3. The university should ensure that the proportion of teaching staff core to the programme provides for at least 75% of the teaching staff’s needs.
4. The university should ensure that all teaching staff benefit from the staff development programme.
5. The university should ensure that all non-teaching staff benefit from the staff development programme
6. The university should ensure that staff offices have toilet facilities, especially for the professor’s cadre
7. The University should provide the following equipment: (1) Terrameter (Abem or Omega) (2) Ground penetrating (GPR) (3) gravity meter (4) magnetometer (5) Thin sectioning Machine (6) cutting and polishing machine (7) GPS (8) hardness scale kits (9) crystal models

 

The total score for the programme is 82.64%. It scored 28 (84.85%)  in Academic Matters, 27 (77.14%) in Staffing, 21 (77.78%) in Physical Facilities, 17 (94.44%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
