1. Practical work conducted did not adequately cover the curriculum.

2. Core teaching staff to the area inadequate.
3. Only 22% of the teaching staff are from the parent university.

4. Staff mix by rank of 22:44:33 meet the NUC’s guidelines in only one category.
5. None of the non-teaching staff benefitted from staff development programme.
6. The botanical garden of the programme is not functional.

7. Staff accommodation is not well equipped.

8. Inadequate number of fire extinguishers and sand buckets.

9. Inadequate number of current journals in the library.
10. No Subscription to data bases in the e-library, only open source materials.
11. Only intranet is available for staff and students to access e-resources.

 

1. More practical work should be conducted in herbarium to adequately cover the curriculum.
2. More core teaching staff should be employed by the College.
3. 25% or more of the teaching staff should be drawn from the parent university.
4. The College should strife to meet the NUC guideline of staff mix by rank of 20:35:45
5. The College should encourage all non-teaching staff to benefit from staff development programme.
6. The College should ensure that all equipment needed in the programme are functional.
7. The College should equip staff offices with more facilities like bookshelves, file cabinets and more chairs.
8. More fire extinguishers and sand buckets should be provided in strategic areas.
9. More current journals should be provided for the programme.
10. The College should subscribe to at least 2 databases in addition to open source materials.
11. More internet sources should be provided to staff and students for easy accessibility of e-resources in the library.

 

The total score for the programme is 76.92%. It scored 32.5 (87.84%)  in Academic Matters, 32 (80.00%) in Staffing, 20.5 (75.93%) in Physical Facilities, 10 (55.56%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
