1. The curriculum does not contain core courses such as Use of Library Study Skills and ICT, Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies, Heat and Thermodynamic
2. Academic regulations exist in students’ handbook but not well publicized, do not include rules and regulations governing the conduct of examinations/penalties for examination malpractices/details of CGPA calculation
3. Interaction between the panel members and students of the programme reveals that lecturers do not sufficiently cover their course syllabus.
4. Practical work did not cover the scope of the curriculum.
5. External examiners report is inadequate as it covers on 2023/2024 session
6. The internal quality assurance mechanism is not effective and there is no evidence of minutes of meetings.
7. The staff mix by rank meets NUC guidelines in one category
8. 40.0% of the academic staff do not have Ph.D. degree
9. Non academic staff are inadequate in number
10. Some Laboratory equipment were not engraved.
12. There are no audio-visuals (white boards and projectors) in the classroom and the available equipment are not maintained.
13. Academic staff offices are inadequate in number and space and they are not furnished with bookshelves and filing cabinets.
14. Funding is inadequate for the programme

 

1. The University Should ensure that all core and compulsory courses are contained in the curriculum
2. Academic regulations should be well publicized, and the University should review students’ handbook to include regulations on examinations, malpractices and CGPA Calculations.
3. The University should ensure that all lecturers cover their course syllabus
4. The University should ensure that the programme is structured to include adequate tutorial/practical work conducted to cover the depth and scope of the curriculum.
5. The University should ensure that external examiners report covers all the sessions as specified in the NUC guidelines
6. The University should ensure that the internal quality assurance unit is effective to impact on the programme and should also ensure that minutes of meetings are adequately documented.
7. The University should ensure that the staff mix by rank meets NUC guidelines in all categories
8. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain Ph.D. degree
9. The University should ensure that adequate non academic staff are available for the programme
10. The University should ensure that all the equipment in the laboratory were engraved.
12. Functional white boards, and projectors should be
provided for the programme. In addition, furniture items in Classroom(s) should be well maintained.
13. Adequate number of well-furnished offices should be provided for the academic staff of the programme.
14. The University should ensure that the programme is adequately funded

 

The total score for the programme is 66.92%. It scored 25 (67.57%)  in Academic Matters, 23 (57.50%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
