1. The curriculum contains less than three innovative courses.
2. Academic regulations exist in students’ handbook but not well publicized, do not include rules and regulations governing the conduct of examinations/penalties for examination malpractices/details of CGPA calculation
3. Practical work did not cover the scope of the curriculum.

4 Interaction between the panel members and students of the programme reveals the students have not acquired the relevant hard and soft skills expected of or prescribed for their levels.
5. The internal quality assurance mechanism is not effective and there is no evidence of minutes of meetings.
6. No Staff from the parent University is engaged in the teaching of the programme.
7. The staff mix by rank of 12.5:37.5:50 does not meet the NUC approved guidelines in any of the categories
8. 38.0% of the academic staff do not have Ph.D. degree
9. 75.0% of the academic staff have not benefited from staff development in the past three years
10. 100.0% of the non-academic staff have not benefited from staff development programme
11. Some Laboratory equipment were not engraved.
12. There are no audio-visuals (white boards and projectors) in the classroom and the available equipment are not maintained.
13. Academic staff offices are inadequate in number and space and they are not furnished with bookshelves and filing cabinets.
14. Available fire extinguishers are all expired and Sanitation around the teaching venues is very poor.

15. The slow internet connectivity impedes access to e-books and journals by students and staff of the programme.
16. Funding is inadequate for the programme.
17. There is no multidisciplinary approach to research.
18. There is no tracer system in place.

 

1. The University should ensure that the curriculum is enriched by the addition of at least four innovative courses without exceeding the maximum credit load.
2. Academic regulations should be well publicized, and the University should review students’ handbook to include regulations on examinations, malpractices and CGPA Calculations.
3. The University should ensure that the programme is structured to include adequate tutorial/practical work conducted to cover the depth and scope of the curriculum.
4. The University should ensure that the practical work conducted is of good quality and covers depth and scope of the curriculum
5. The University should ensure that the internal quality assurance unit is effective to impact on the programme and should also ensure that minutes of meetings are adequately documented.
6. The University should ensure that the proportion of teaching staff from the parent University provides for 25% or more of the teaching staff need
7. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank of 20:35:45 in line with the NUC approved guidelines
8. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain Ph.D. degree.
9. The University should ensure that all academic staff benefit from Staff Development Programme
10. The University should ensure that all non-academic staff benefit from Staff Development Programme
11. The University should ensure that all the equipment in the laboratory were engraved.
12. Functional white boards, and projectors should be
provided for the programme. In addition, furniture items in Classroom(s) should be well maintained.
13. Adequate number of well-furnished offices should be provided for the academic staff of the programme.
14. The University should ensure that functional fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment/devices are installed at strategic locations for the programme and the poor sanitation of the environment should be improved.
15. The University should ensure that internet connectivity is improved upon by increasing the bandwidth.
16. The programme should be adequately funded.
17. The University should ensure that there is a multidisciplinary approach to research in the programme.
18. The University should ensure that a tracer system is in place.

 

The total score for the programme is 72.31%. It scored 31 (83.78%)  in Academic Matters, 23 (57.50%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 17 (94.44%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
