1. The curriculum is inadequate and does not contain core courses such as GTS121 Use of Library, EDU212 Educational Administration, SED401 Research Method and Data, and GST222 Peace and Conflict Resolution
2. Academic regulations exist in students’ handbook but not well publicized, do not include rules and regulations governing the conduct of examinations/penalties for examination malpractices/details of CGPA calculation
3. Practical work did not cover the scope of the curriculum
4 Interaction between the panel members and students of the programme reveals the students have not acquired the relevant hard and soft skills expected of or prescribed for their levels some organic chemistry.
5. The internal quality assurance mechanism is not effective and there is no evidence that the parent university is adequately involved in the quality assurance mechanism
6. No Staff from the parent University is engaged in the teaching of the programme.
7. The staff mix by rank of 7:29:6 meets the NUC approved guidelines in one category
8. 32.3% of the academic staff do not have Ph.D. degree
9. More than 50% of the academic staff have not benefited from staff development in the past three years
10. Academic staff offices are inadequate in number and space and they are not furnished with bookshelves and filing cabinets
11. There are no audio-visuals (white boards and projectors) in the classroom and the available equipment are not maintained
12. Funding for the programme is inadequate

 

1. The University should ensure that all core and compulsory courses are included in the curriculum
2. Academic regulations should be well publicized, and the University should review students’ handbook to include regulations on examinations, malpractices and CGPA Calculations
3. The University should ensure that the programme is structured to include adequate tutorial/practical work conducted to cover the depth and scope of the curriculum
4. The University should ensure that the practical work conducted is of good quality and covers depth and scope of the curriculum
5. The University should ensure that the internal quality assurance unit is effective to impact on the programme and should also ensure that the parent university is involded in the quality assurance mechanism.
6. The University should ensure that the proportion of teaching staff from the parent University provides for 25% or more of the teaching staff need
7. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank meet the NUC approved guidelines in all categories
8. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain Ph.D. degree.
9. The University should ensure that all academic staff benefit from Staff Development Programme
10. Adequate number of well-furnished offices should be provided for the academic staff of the programme
11. Functional white boards, and projectors should be
provided for the programme. In addition, furniture items in Classroom(s) should be well maintained
12. The University should ensure that the programme is adequately funded

 

The total score for the programme is 63.08%. It scored 25 (67.57%)  in Academic Matters, 20 (50.00%) in Staffing, 19 (70.37%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
