1. The following core courses were omitted in the curriculum: PHY 112 (Mechanics), PHY 123 (General Physics), CHE 122 (Organic Chemistry) and CHE 113 (Inorganic Chemistry)
2.The staff mix by rank of 9:36:55 meet the BMAS guidelines in only one category.
3. 75% of academic staff and 100% of non-academic staff have not benefited from staff development programme.
4. The Head of the Department is a Lecturer 1.
5. There is no functional television and radio, printable circuit and space for electronic practical in the laboratory.
6. There is no evidence of research and collaboration in the programme.
7. Accessibility to e-resources by students has limited area coverage within the campus.
8. Funding for the programme is inadequate.

 

1. The curriculum should be reviewed to include all omitted courses in line with BMAS stipulation.
2. The College should ensure a staff mix by rank of 20:35:45.
3.The College should ensure that all academic and non-academic staff benefit from staff development programme.
4. The College should ensure that the Head of Department should be from the rank of a Chief Lecturer.
5. The College should provide more spacious laboratory and procure all essential equipment for the programme.
6. The College should ensure that there is research and collaboration in the programme.
7. The College should ensure that area coverage of internet be expanded for students in the programme.
8. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 60.63%. It scored 20.4 (61.82%)  in Academic Matters, 24.5 (61.25%) in Staffing, 19.3 (71.48%) in Physical Facilities, 11.2 (62.22%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 0 (0.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
