REMEDIES

1. The curriculum does not contain any additional/innovative course.
2. Academic regulations are not clearly stated in the students’ handbook.
3. Staff Mix by rank of 16:37:47 does not comply with NUC guidelines in one category.
4. 43% of the non–teaching staff have not benefitted from Staff Development Programme in the past three years.
5. Basic laboratory equipment such as pianos, organs, orchestra and other band instruments are non-functional.
6. The equipment and furniture in classrooms, practice rooms and lecture theatres are not well maintained.
7. The environmental sanitation around the teaching area is poor.
8. Funding for the programme is inadequate.

 

1. The University should ensure the inclusion of four or more innovative courses in the curriculum without exceeding the maximum credit load across all levels of study.
2. The University should ensure that academic regulations especially on the penalties for examination malpractice are clearly stated in the students’ handbook;
3. The University should ensure that Staff mix by rank complies with NUC guidelines of 20:35:45.
4. The University should ensure that all non-teaching staff benefit from Staff Development Programme.
5. The University should urgently ensure repair/replacement of all non-functional equipment in the laboratory.
6. Adequate maintenance of classrooms, practice rooms and lecture theatres should be ensured by the University.
7. The University should ensure that environmental sanitation around the teaching area is clean.
8. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 85.60%. It scored 32 (86.49%)  in Academic Matters, 32 (91%) in Staffing, 19 (70.37%) in Physical Facilities, 18 (100.00%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
