REMEDIES

1. The external report exists but is not of a good standard, as it only covers project defense.
2. Internal quality assurance exists, but there were no minutes of meetings or documentation of decisions.
3. Staff mix of 9.1: 18.2:72.7 did not meet the NUC recommendation in any category.
4. Less than 50% of academic staff have Ph.D.
5. The classroom equipment were slightly inadequate but well-maintained,

 

1. The department should ensure that qualified assessors are engaged and examiners’ reports are of a good standard.
2. The department should ensure that the internal quality assurance system is functional and that minutes of meetings and documentation of decisions are kept.
3. The University should employ more academic staff on the professorial and senior lecture cadre.
4. The University should ensure more of their academic staff have a Ph.D qualification
5. The University should procure more classroom equipment like projectors, public address systems, and interactive boards.

 

The total score for the programme is 83.60%. It scored 35 (94.59%)  in Academic Matters, 24 (68.57%) in Staffing, 23 (85.19%) in Physical Facilities, 17 (94.44%) in Library. The programme scored 1.5 (50.00%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
