DEFICIENCIES

REMEDIES

1. The marking schemes are not well developed. Some of the marking schemes are handwritten and sketchy.

2. The practical work conducted did not adequately cover the curriculum.

3. 75.0% of the academic staff and 100.0% of the non-teaching staff did not benefit from the Staff Development Programme.

4. The chemistry laboratory does not not have the following essential equipment specified in the BMAS: FIIR, GC-MS, AAS and NMR.

5. Academic staff offices are inadequate in space.

6. The University subscribes to only one database.

7. There is no multidisciplinary approach to research.

 

1. Block allocation of marks to examination questions should be discouraged.

2. the University should ensure that programme is structured to include adequate practical work that covers the curriculum.

3. The University should ensure that all academic and non-teaching staff benefit from the Staff Development Programme.

4. All essential laboratory equipment should be provided for the programme.

5. Standard offices should be provided for the programme.

6. The University should ensure that additional database is subscribed to.

7. The University should ensure that there is a multidisciplinary approach to research in the programme.

 

The total score for the programme is 76.00%. It scored 31 (83.78%)  in Academic Matters, 26 (74.29%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
