REMEDIES

1. There were only 2 innovative courses in the curriculum. (ANA314.2 & MDS202.2)

2. Academic regulations relating to examination malpractice are not clearly spelt out in the handbook.
3. Internal quality assurance exists but not effective. There is no evidence of minutes of meeting filed in some departments.

4. No non-teaching staff have benefited from the universities staff development programme.

5. Some equipment were unavailable in the laboratories (gas meter, oscilloscope, vitalograph, blood analyser, flame photometer);
6. Equipment (white boards, fans) and furniture (desks and chairs) in some classrooms were not well maintained;

7. Some fire extinguishers inspected around reaching facilities have expired;

8. Recommended text and journals in the library were inadequate in number and currency;

9. Most of the recommended text and journals cited in the library were not published within the last 3 years.
10. Funding for the programme is inadequate.

 

1. The University should ensure that more innovative courses be included in the curriculum across all levels of study;
2. The University should ensure that all academic regulation are clear and well publicized to students;
3. The University should ensure that internal quality assurance exists in every department and functional with minutes of meetings filed appropriately;
4. The university should ensure that all non-teaching staff should benefit from the staff development programme;
5. The university should ensure that the equipment in the laboratories meets the recommended BMAS specification;
6. The university should ensure that all equipment as furniture in classrooms are well maintained at all times.
7. The university should ensure that the environment is safe and complies with all Government laws relating to fire and environmental sanitation;
8. The university should ensure that recommended texts and journals in the physical library are of good, quality, very relevant and adequate in number and coverage.
9. The university should ensure that recommend texts and journals in the library are very current.
10. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 88.96%. It scored 32.6 (88.11%)  in Academic Matters, 33 (94%) in Staffing, 22.9 (84.81%) in Physical Facilities, 15.7 (87.22%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
