REMEDIES

1. The Philosophy and Objectives of the programme are not in line with the NUC BMAS.

2. Some core courses were omitted from the curriculum; they are
I. Photojournalism
ii. Economics of Mass News Reporting.

3. Practical work did not cover the curriculum.

4. The staff mix by rank of 18: 36: 45 is consistent with NUC guidelines in only one category.

5. 6. 36.4% of academic staff do not have Ph.d degree.

6. There is no evidence of staff development programme for teaching and non-teaching staff.

7. The department lacks PRAD laboratory, news editing laboratory and no photo studio. The radio and television studios are poorly equipped. There is no control room and no acoustics treatment. It lacks enough video cameras, microphones etc.

8. Academic staff offices lack Air conditioners, file cabinets, and television.

9. The school environment is over grown with bushes.

10. Library books and journals are inadequate in number.

11. The University is subscribed to only one database.

12. There is no evidence of active subscription to Internet.

14. Funding for the program is inadequate.

 

1. The Philosophy and Objectives of the programme should be in line with the NUC BMAS.

2. All core course should be included in the programme.

3. Students practical works should cover the curriculum.

4. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank of 20: 35: 45.

5. The University should ensure that all academic staff obtain Ph.d degree.

6. The University should ensure that the teaching and non- teaching staff take advantage of the staff development programme.

7. All essential equipment should be provided for the programme.

8. Academic staff offices should be adequately equipped.

9. Over grown bushes should be cut.

10. More library books and journals should be procured for the programme.

11. The University should subscribe to atleast two relevant databases in addition to open source materials.

12. The University should subscribe to Internet for the library.

13. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 68.02%. It scored 26 (78.79%)  in Academic Matters, 27 (77%) in Staffing, 14.8 (54.81%) in Physical Facilities, 10.5 (58.33%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
