REMEDIES

1. Marking schemes for grading projects, continuous assessment, course work and examination scripts are not consistent.
2. The depth and scope of the curriculum covered on practical work in Animal Science, Crops & Soil Science are not of good quality for skills development.
3. Unavailability of laboratory manuals for the programme.
4. The classrooms and lecture theatres are not well lit and not well equipped with projectors, public address systems and instructive smartboards.
5. Some academic staff offices are inadequate in space, not well furnished and without personal toilets.
6. Laboratory equipment in the laboratory room are not engraved.
7. Laboratory facilities are inadequate in space and not well furnished.
8. No preparatory rooms and no provisions made for storage of chemicals.
9. Staff mix by rank of 23:38.5:38.5 does not meet the NUC guidelines in one category.
10. Library books and journals are inadequate in number.
11. The programme is only subscribed to One (1) E-resources.
12. Internal quality assurance exists, but no evidence of meetings.
13. The number of laboratory technologists’ staff is inadequate for the programme.
14. 31% of the academic staff do not have the Ph.D degree.
15. 54% of academic staff have not benefited from staff development.
16. 85% of the non-academic staff have not benefited from staff development.
17. Fire extinguishers and sand buckets are inadequate in number
18. Funding for the programme is inadequate.

 

1. Marking schemes for grading projects, continuous assessment, course work and examination scripts should be made to be consistent and thoroughly supervised.
2. The depth and scope of the curriculum covered on practical work in Animal Science, Crops & Soil Science should be made to be of good quality for adequate skills development of the students.
3. Proper laboratory manuals should be developed to cover the curriculum and develop proper skills in the students.
4. The classrooms and lecture theatres should be well lit and well equipped with projectors, public address systems and instructive smartboards.
5. All academic staff offices should be of equal standard with personal toilets inbuilt and adequately furnished for the programme.
6. Laboratory equipment in the laboratory room should be properly engraved for the programme.
7. More laboratory facilities and equipment should be provided for Crop, Soil and Animal Sciences
8. Preparatory rooms and storage rooms for chemicals should be provided for the programme.
9. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank that is consistent with NUC guidelines of 20:35:45
10. More current books and journals should be procured for the programme.
11. The programme should be made to subscribe to more E-resources.
12. Internal quality assurance should exist at the faculty and departmental level and records of meetings be documented.
13. More laboratory technologists’ staff should be employed for the programme to properly guide and train students in the use of laboratory equipment.
14. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain the Ph.D degree.
15. The University should ensure that all academic staff for the programme benefits from staff development programme.
16. The University should ensure that all non-academic staff for the programme benefits from staff development programme.
17. The university should provide more firefighting equipment for the programme
18. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 60.00%. It scored 26 (70.27%)  in Academic Matters, 23 (65.71%) in Staffing, 11 (40.74%) in Physical Facilities, 9 (50.00%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
