1. Only one innovative course is added in the curriculum.
FUDMA TCH 581: Security Management and Safety of Life.

2. Practical work conducted did not cover the curriculum due
to insufficient equipment such as Flow measuring apparatus,
Process simulation computer laboratory, Heat exchange system,
Sedimentation system/fluid and Gas -liquid absorption
system.

3. No evidence of evaluation of the programme by the
students.

4. Sampled students did not demonstrate very good level of soft and hard skills relevant to the programme.

5. Internal Quality Assurance System does not exist.

6. 41.4% of the teaching staff are not core to the subject
area.

7. The staff mix by rank of 20.7 : 20.7 : 58.6 did not meet
NUC guidelines in two categories.

8. The non- teaching staff are inadequate in number.

9. 57.1% of the academic staff and 50% of the non-academic
staff did not benefit from the staff development
programme.

10. Equipment like Flow Measuring Apparatus; Heat Exchange System;
Sedimentation System/Fluid; and Gas- Liquid Absorption
System are not available in the laboratory. And Process Simulation laboratory with computer and software is not available

11. Public address system, White boards and Projectors are
not available in the classrooms.

12. Journals in the physical library are not very current and
inadequate in number.

13. Funding for the programme is inadequate.

14. No evidence of research and collaboration.

15. Students’ performance during supervised industrial and
other similar experience is not very good.

 

1. The University should ensure the inclusion of four (4) or
more innovative courses in the curriculum.

2. The University should ensure that all practical work
conducted are of good quality and cover the curriculum.

3. The University should ensure effective evaluation of the
programme by the students.

4. The University should ensure that the students
demonstrate very good level of soft and hard skills relevant
to the programme.

5. The University should ensure that internal quality
assurance system exist and is functional.

6. The University should ensure that the proportion of
teaching staff core to the subject area provides for at least
75% or more of the teaching staff needed for the programme.

7. The University should employ more Professors and Senior
Lecturers for the programme to comply with NUC guideline of
20 : 35 : 45

8. The University should employ adequate number of non-academic
staff for the programme.

9. The University should encourage all academic and non-academic
staff to benefit from the staff development
programme.

10. The University should ensure that all essential laboratory
equipment are available and functional.

11. The University should ensure that all classroom
equipment are available and well maintained.

12. The University should ensure that adequate and very
current journals are available in the physical library.

13. The University should provide adequate funding for the
programme.

14. The University should ensure that research and
collaboration exist.

15. The University should ensure that all students’
supervised industrial experience and practical work are very
good.

 

The total score for the programme is 69.75%. It scored 24 (72.73%)  in Academic Matters, 20 (61.00%) in Staffing, 21 (77.78%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 0 (0.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
