REMEDIES

1. There are less than four (4) innovative courses in the curriculum. NSC 414 and NSC 523 are the only innovative courses in the curriculum.

2. The project topics are innovative but not well supervised; the process of research writing is not uniform.

3. The proportion of staff core to the subject area provides for only 64% of the teaching staff need.

4. 36% of the teaching staff does not have the PhD degree.

5. All the non-academic staff have not benefited from the Staff Development Programme.

6. Functional Models, Delivery Model Phantoms, Labour Guides, Trolleys and Family Planning Kits are not available in the laboratories.

7. Library books and journals are inadequate in number and currency.

8. The Library subscribes to only one (1) active database EBSCOHOST

9. Access to e resources is limited to the library

10. Funding for the programme is inadequate

 

1. The University should ensure that the curriculum is enriched by the addition of at least four innovative courses in the curriculum without exceeding maximum credit load.

2. The University should ensure that projects are well supervised and a uniform method should be adopted while writing reports.

3. The University should ensure that the proportion of staff core to the subject area provides for at least 75% of the teaching staff need.

4. The University should ensure that all teaching staff acquires the PhD degree.

5. The University should ensure that all non-academic staff benefit from the staff development programme.

6. All essential equipment should be procured for the laboratories.

7. More current books and journals should be procured for the programme

8. The university should subscribe to at least two (2) relevant databases for the programme.

9. Access/Connectivity to e-resources should be improved throughout the campus of the University

10. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 73.60%. It scored 30 (81.08%)  in Academic Matters, 27 (77.14%) in Staffing, 18 (66.67%) in Physical Facilities, 11 (61.11%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
