A.        SUMMARY OF PANEL’S REPORT

REMEDIES

1. Marking schemes are not well developed in some courses as there are no proper distribution of scores to some of the questions.
2. Students in the programme demonstrated average hard and soft skills relevant to the programme
3. Internal quality assurance is not effective as there are no minutes of meetings or records of decisions taken by the committee.
4. The Staff Mix by Rank of 22:16:62 is complies with NUC guideline in only one category.
5. 58% of the teaching staff in the programme has no PhD. degrees.

6. The Heads of Oral Diagnostic Science and Preventive Dentistry Departments are not specialists in the respective areas of Dentistry.
7. There are no adequate number of Dental technologists, Dental Surgery technicians and Dental Therapists for the programme.
8. 35.7% of academic staff and 32.3% of non-teaching staff in the programme did not benefit from staff development programme.
9. There are no projectors, effective public address system and internet connectivity in the classrooms. The furniture in the classrooms are also not adequate.
10. Academic staff offices are inadequately furnished with standard chairs, tables, file cabinets and bookshelves.
11. Access to library e-resources is restricted to the library premises only.

 

1. The University should ensure proper development of marking schemes to all courses in the programme.
2. The University should ensure that students in the programme acquire hard and soft skills relevant to the programme
3. The University should ensure that the Internal Quality Assurance Committee is strengthen to impact positively on the programme.
4. The University should ensure a Staff Mix by Rank of 20:35:45 in line with NUC Stipulation.
5. The University should encourage all teaching staff in the programme to acquire PhD. degree
6. The University should appoint experts in Oral Diagnostic Sciences and Preventive Dentistry to head the Departments.
7. The University should appoint a permanent Dental Technologists, Dental Surgery Technicians and Dental Therapists for the programme.
8. The University should ensure that all academic and non-teaching staff in the programme benefit from staff development.
9. The Univversity should provide projectors, functional public address systems, and secured internet connectivity to the classrooms. Also, standard furniture should be provided.
10. Academic Staff offices should be adequately furnished with standard chairs, tables, file cabinets and bookshelves.
11. The University should ensure that students in the programme can access e-resources from anywhere.

 

The total score for the programme is 73.14%. It scored 25.5 (77.27%)  in Academic Matters, 22 (62.86%) in Staffing, 19 (70.37%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 3 (100.00%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 0 (0.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
