REMEDIES

1. Some marking Schemes were observed to contain block marking
2. There is no evidence of student course evaluation
3. 63.3% of the teaching Staff are core to the subject area
4. 35% of the non teaching staff have benefitted from staff development
in the last three years
5. Equipment such as PH meter, Bunsen burner and columns gel filtration , ion exchange chromatography are insufficient
6. The audio-visual facilities in the lecture theatre and classrooms are insufficient
7. Physical books in the library are not adequate in number
8. Funding for the programme is iinadequate

 

1. Marking schemes should be well developed and have a good grading
system
2. Students’ course evaluation should be properly documented for siting
3. At least 75% of the teaching Staff should be core to the subject area
4. Non teaching Staff should benefit from staff development
5. Equipment such as PH meter, Bunsen Burner and column gel filtration
,ion-exchange chromatography should be acquired
6. Audio-visual facilities should be procured for the classrooms and
lecture theatres
7. More textbooks such as Lehninger Biochemistry Harpers Review of
Biochemistry and Stryer Biochemistry should be acquired
8. The programme should be properly funded

 

The total score for the programme is 88.40%. It scored 34.5 (93.24%)  in Academic Matters, 31 (89%) in Staffing, 23 (85.19%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
