REMEDIES

1. Examination question papers were poorly moderated
2. Students’ projects were poorly written
3. Students’ degree projects supervision is in a group of 4 students to 1
project
4. Computers in the English lab are old and slow
5. Students do not have a very good level of hard and soft skills relevant
to the programme
6. 57.1% of the academic staff are core to the subject area
7. The staff mix by rank is below the NUC requirement in the lecturer 1
and below category
8. 64% of the academic staff enjoyed staff development in the last 3
years
9. There are no projectors and public address systems available
10. International journals are inadequate

 

1. Exam question papers should be properly moderated
2. Students’ projects should contain a well written abstract, proper
instrumentation and analysis of the project topic.
3. Project supervision should be done on the basis of one student to a
supervisor
4. Modern computers with faster processing units should be procured
5. Students must be taught higher levels of hard and soft skills
6. At least 75% of the teaching staff must be core to the subject area
7. The Lecturer 1 and below category of teaching staff must be at least
75% of the total staff for the programme
8. All academic staff must enjoy staff development
9. Projectors and public address systems must be procured for the
programme
10. International journals such as ELTJ and applied linguistics as well as
African Literature Today should be procured

 

The total score for the programme is 80.80%. It scored 30 (81.08%)  in Academic Matters, 28 (80.00%) in Staffing, 23 (85.19%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77.78%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
