REMEDIES

1. The academic regulations were not included in the students’ handbook.

2. There was bloc marking.

3. There practical work in the programme was not enough.

4. The staff student ratio of 1:31 deviates from the NUC guidelines of 1:20 for science programmes.

5. Only 68% of staff were in the core areas of computer science.

6. Only 33.36% of the academic staff do not have PhDs.

7. Only 39% percent of the academic staff did not benefit from the staff development scheme.

8. The hardware/digital laboratory was incorporated in one of the software labs.

9. There were not enough hardware, microprocessor and micro-computer training kits in the hardware laboratory.

10. There were no public address systems in the lecture halls.

11. The staff offices for Professors and Senior Lecturers were inadequate in space.

12. Books on compiling techniques, database management and operating systems were not current.

13. Some of the journals in the physical holdings were not current.

 

1. The university should ensure that the academic regulations are incorporated into the students’ handbook and well publicized.

2. The university should ensure that bloc marking is discouraged and that marks allocated to each point are clearly delineated.

3. The university should ensure that all the students are exposed to more practical work across all levels.

4. The university should ensure that it adheres to NUC’s guidelines of 1:20 for its staff/students’ ratio.

5. The university should ensure that 75% or more of its teaching staff are core to computer science programme.

6. The university should ensure that all its teaching staff have PhD.

7. The university should ensure that all its teaching staff benefit from its staff development scheme.

8. The university should ensure that the hardware/digital labs are separated from the software labs.

9. The university should ensure that more hardware, microprocessor and micro-computer training kits are provided in the hardware lab.

10. The university should ensure that public address systems are used in the lecture halls.

11. The university should ensure that more spacious offices are provided for the Professors and Senior Lecturers.

12. The university should regularly procure more current books on compiling techniques, database management, operating systems and other areas of computing.

13. The university should ensure that it procures more current journals for its physical holdings.

 

The total score for the programme is 82.00%. It scored 32 (86.49%)  in Academic Matters, 26 (74%) in Staffing, 23 (85.19%) in Physical Facilities, 14.5 (80.56%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
