REMEDIES

1. The curriculum contains less than four innovative courses.

2. Academic regulations exist in the students handbook but
not well publicized.

3. There is block allocation of marks to questions in some
courses.

4. The proportion of teaching staff core to the programme
provides for 69% of the teaching staff need.

5. None of the academic staff and non-academic staff
have benefited from Staff Development Programme.

6. Academic staff offices are inadequate in space.

7. Available fire extinguishers are not functional and sand
buckets were not provided.

8. Physical library books and Journals are inadequate in
number and currency.

9. Internet Hotspots are only available within the library
complex.

10. Funding is inadequate for the programme.

11. There is no multidisciplinary approach to research among
the department

 

1. . The university should ensure that the curriculum is
enriched by the addition of at least four innovative courses
without exceeding the maximum credit load.

2. Academic regulations should be well publicized.

3. Block allocations of marks to examination questions
should be discouraged.

4. The University should ensure that the proportion of
teaching staff core to the subject area provides for 75% of
the teaching staff need.

5. The University should ensure that all academic and
non-academic staff benefit from staff Development Programme.

6. .Standard (spacious) offices should be provided for the
programme.

7. The University should ensure that functional fire extinguishers and sand buckets are provided at strategic locations for the programme.

8. More current books and Journals should be procured for
the programme.

9. Internet Hotsopts should be extended to other parts of the
campus for ease of access to e-resources in the library.

10. The programme should be adequately funded.

11. The University should ensure that there is a
multidisciplinary approach to research in the programme.

 

The total score for the programme is 78.75%. It scored 27 (84.38%)  in Academic Matters, 27 (77.14%) in Staffing, 21 (77.78%) in Physical Facilities, 14.5 (80.56%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
