DEFICIENCIES

REMEDIES

1. The academic regulations did not include policies on examination malpractices and penalties.

2. Marking schemes are not well-developed.

3. Staff mix by rank is consistent with NUC guidelines in only one category.
4. 83% of the non-academic staff have not benefitted from the staff development program
5. Most of the equipment in the laboratory is obsolete and more of plant science.
6. Classroom equipment are not maintained.
7. Weak internet coverage and hotspots around the faculty
8. Funding for the program is inadequate.

 

1. The university should ensure that academic regulations in the students’ handbook clearly state penalties for examination malpractice and it should be well-publicized and strictly adhered to.
2. The marking scheme should be well-developed with periodic reviews by the quality assurance committee.
3. The staff mix by rank should be consistent in all the categories.
4. The university should ensure full participation of the non-academic staff in the staff development program
5. The university should be encouraged to procure equipment such as PCR machine, Centrifuge, and UV imagery for biotechnology and newer models of equipment for plant science.
6. Equipment in the classroom needs to be maintained
7. The university needs to upgrade its internet coverage and hotspots within the faculty.
8. The university should increase funding to boost the program

 

The total score for the programme is 85.71%. It scored 28 (90%)  in Academic Matters, 31 (89%) in Staffing, 21 (78%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (89%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33%) in Funding, 3 (100%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
