REMEDIES

1. Maths 343 and Maths 311 were made core in 300 level instead of
elective.
2. Some Academic regulations are missing in the student’s
handbook.
3. Students’ projects are poorly supervised, and the practical work
did not cover the curriculum adequately.
4. The staff/student ratio of 1:21.8 slightly deviates from NUC
guideline of 1:20 for sciences and the staff mix is bottom heavy.
5. only 38.5% of the academic staff and 24% of non-academic staff
benefited from staff development programme in the last 3 years.
6. inadequate space, furniture and equipment such as tables, chairs,
televisions, refrigerators, etc in staff offices, classrooms and
laboratories.
7. Physical library holding are not adequate in number and currency.
8. Funding is inadequate for the programme.

 

1. The mathematics courses in 300 level should be made elective
courses and not core courses.
2. The university should ensure the availability of all academic
regulations in the student’s handbook.
3. The University should ensure that the projects are well
supervised and the practical work adequately cover the
curriculum.
4. The University should adhere strictly to NUC guideline on the
staff/student ratio and employ more junior staff.
5. The University should ensure that all staff benefit from staff
development programme.
6. The University should ensure the availability of more space,
furnitures and equipment for the programme.
7. The library holdings should be increased based on the number of
students enrolled in the programme.
8. More Funding should be provided for the programme.

 

The total score for the programme is 77.00%. It scored 29.25 (79.05%)  in Academic Matters, 27 (77%) in Staffing, 20 (74.07%) in Physical Facilities, 14 (77%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33.33%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
