REMEDIES

1. Some of the students enrolled in the programme did not meet the
admission requirements. Such as:
a. Magbo Juliet Nwanneka; Reg. No. 2023/DE/BIO/0010/Reg. E8 in
Biology O’Level.
b. Ude Christian Chisom; Reg. No. 2021/BIO/0005/Reg. E8 in Physics
O’Level.

2. The proportion of staff core to the subject area provides for only
57.1% of the teaching staff need.

3. Academic staff mix by rank of
21:00:78.6 was consistent with NUC guidelines only in one category.

4. The Head of Department of the Programme is not up to the rank of
Senior Lecture, hence not qualified to head an academic
department.

5. 36% of the academic staff and all non-teaching staff have not
benefitted from the staff Development programme.

6. The biology Laboratory lacks Aquarium and First aid box

7. Academic staff offices are not well furnished with window blinds,
bookshelves and white boards.

8. There is active subscription to only one relevant data base.

 

1. The College should ensure that all students admitted into the
programme meet the admission requirements of O’level credits in
relevant subjects.

2. The College should ensure that the proportion of teaching staff core
to the subject area provides for 75% or more of the teaching staff
need.

3. The staff mix by rank structure for academic staff should be
20:35:45 for Professors/Readers: Senior Lecturers: Lecturer I and
below, respectively in accordance with the NUC guidelines.

4. The College should ensure that the Department is headed by a
qualified academic not below the rank of a senior lecturer.

5. The College is encouraged to ensure that all staff benefit from the
staff Development Programme.

6. All essential equipment and first aid boxes should be provided in all
the laboratories.

7. The College should ensure that academic Staff offices are well
furnished

8. The College should subscribe to at least 2 relevant databases for the
programme.

 

The total score for the programme is 82.52%. It scored 30 (90.91%)  in Academic Matters, 28.5 (71.25%) in Staffing, 23 (85.19%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (88.89%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 2 (66.67%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library, in academic matters, staffing, physical facilities and library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
