REMEDIES

1. The final year courses are not in line with the NUC BMAS.
2. The curriculum does not contain any innovative course.
3. Bloc marking is observed in some examination scripts.
4. Practicals are not conducted in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Physiology.
5. Internal quality assurance system does not exist.
6. 35.7% of the academic staff do not have PhD degree.
7. All the non-teaching staff have not benefitted from Staff Development Programme in the last three years.
8. The programme has two laboratories instead of three.
9. Manikins, hi-tech delivery manikins and baby cots are not available in the laboratory while forceps are inadequate in number.
10. There are no white boards or projectors in the classrooms.
11. Academic staff offices are inadequate in space and lack bookshelves, file cabinets and air conditioners.
12. Fire extinguishers are not available around the teaching area.
13. The slow internet connectivity impedes access to e-books and journals.
14. There is no multidisciplinary approach to research.

 

1. The University should ensure that all final year courses are reviewed in line with the NUC BMAS.
2. The University should ensure that the curriculum is enriched by the addition of at least four innovative courses without exceeding the maximum credit load.
3. Bloc allocation of marks should be discouraged.
4. The University should ensure that practicals in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Physiology are conducted in the programme.
5. The University should establish an internal quality assurance unit.
6. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain PhD degree.
7. The University should ensure that all non-teaching staff benefit from Staff Development Programme.
8. An additional laboratory should be provided for the programme.
9. All essential laboratory equipment should be provided in line with the BMAS.
10. White boards and projectors should be provided in the classrooms.
11. Standard (spacious) and well equipped offices should be provided for the academic staff of the programme.
12. The University should ensure that fire extinguishers are installed at strategic locations for the programme.
13. Internet connectivity should be improved upon.
14. The University should ensure that there is a multidisciplinary approach to research in the programme.

 

The total score for the programme is 64.88%. It scored 17.5 (53.03%)  in Academic Matters, 29 (82.86%) in Staffing, 12 (44.44%) in Physical Facilities, 15 (83.33%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 1 (33.33%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
