REMEDIES

1. The students’ handbooks did not clearly define academic regulations, such as penalties for examination malpractice and cultism.
2. Marking schemes are not well-developed.
3. The staff structure for academic staff is not consistent with NUC guidelines in all categories,
4. 83.4% of the non-teaching staff have not benefited from staff development programme in the past three years.
5. The laboratory equipment inspected did not meet the CCMASS specification.
6. The classroom equipment was slightly inadequate. Poor maintenace culture
7. Funding for the program is inadequate

 

1. The university should ensure that academic regulations are available, clear, in use, and well-publicized to students.
2. Marking schemes should not be lumped together.
3. The university should ensure consistency in the academic staff structure of 20: 35: 45
4. All non-teaching staff should be allowed to benefit from the staff development program
5. The equipment should be replaced with newer models covering Biotechnology e.g. PCR machine, centrifuge, and UV imagery.
6. The classrooms should be well-maintained.
7. The University should provide more funding to boost the program.

 

The total score for the programme is 86%. It scored 28 (90%)  in Academic Matters, 31 (87%) in Staffing, 21 (78%) in Physical Facilities, 16 (89%) in Library. The programme scored 1 (33%) in Funding, 3 (100%) in Research and Collaborations and 2 (100%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored up to 70% and above in all four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  FULL accreditation status for the Programme.

B.    APPROVAL BY THE COMMISSION

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  FULL accreditation status for the Programme
