1. The moot court and law clinic are inadequate in space and inadequately equipped.
2. Classrooms are inadequate in number.
3. Some academic staff offices are inadequate in space, not well furnished and without personal toilets.
4. Staff mix by rank of 43.33:43.33:13.33 does not meet the NUC guidelines in one category.
5. Library books and journals are inadequate in number.
6. Internal quality assurance exists, but no evidence of meetings.
7. The Department of Public Law is been administered by an academic lecturer who is been reported to be a Senior Lecturer without a Ph.D degree which is against extant laws.
8. 10% of the academic staff do not have the Ph.D degree.
9. 50% of academic staff have not benefited from staff development.
10. 87.5% of the non-academic staff have not benefited from staff development.
11. Funding for the programme is inadequate.

 

1. The moot court and law clinic need to be expanded and adequately furnished.
2. Adequate number of well-maintained classrooms should be provided for the programme to accommodate the total number of students.
3. All academic staff offices should be of equal standard with personal toilets inbuilt and adequately furnished for the programme.
4. The University should ensure a staff mix by rank that is consistent with NUC guidelines of 20:35:45.
5. More current books and journals should be procured for the programme.
6. Internal quality assurance should exist at the faculty and departmental level and records of meetings be documented.
7. The Public Law Department should be administered by a more qualified academic staff with a Ph.D degree.
8. All academic staff should be encouraged to obtain the Ph.D degree.
9. The University should ensure that all academic staff for the programme benefits from staff development programme.
10. The University should ensure that all academic staff for the programme benefits from staff development programme.
11. The programme should be adequately funded.

 

The total score for the programme is 78.33%. It scored 28 (87.50%)  in Academic Matters, 28.7 (82.00%) in Staffing, 18 (66.67%) in Physical Facilities, 13.3 (73.89%) in Library. The programme scored 2 (66.67%) in Funding, 3 (100.00%) in Research and Collaborations and 1 (50.00%) in Employers’ Rating. Based on the fact that the programme scored less than 70% in any of the four core components (Academic Matters, Staffing, Physical Facilities and Library), the Panel recommended  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme.

Based on further analysis of the report, the Commission upholds the recommendation of  INTERIM accreditation status for the Programme
