The National Universities Commission is a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Education charged with the responsibilities of orderly development of universities in Nigeria. The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation is called the Executive Secretary (ES), and there are two Deputy Executive Secretaries. Presently the organisation has five departments and the immediate Office of the Executive Secretary. Each department is headed by a Director and in each Department there are Divisions and Units. The departments are:

Inspection and Monitoring Department
Student Support Services Department
